Lyne FC host the annual LYNE FC Vs WYTHALL JUNIORS CHALLENGE SHIELD in Lyne, Chertsey, Surrey every year - post season.  The Challenge started in 2008 for the 1st time.  As many Wythall teams as possible, go down to Surrey to participate in this great day of football between two great clubs.  The 1st two years have seen Wythall Juniors come away as worthy winners, by never losing a game to date. This is a great achievement against a club with a big name in & around the London circuit.  Wythall Juniors are looking forward to returning next year once more, to defend the trophy once more.

U13s Captain - Rory Willitts collects the Challenge Shield 2009

The Annual Lyne FC vs Wythall Juniors Challenge Shield got under away again on Sunday 28th June 2008.

After winning the 1st ever Challenge Shield in 2008 between these two clubs, Wythall set out retaining the trophy again, starting with a 100% record after winning all the games comfortably last year.  This year saw an extra game, putting the count up to 5.

1st match up - Lyne FC Under15s  vs Wythall Juniors u15s

After Wythall Juniors won this match up 6-0 last year, Lyne FC were looking to change the out come this time against a formidable Wythall side.  No mugs themselves, Lyne looked determined to make up for last seasons loss, by starting well, with the game pretty even for the 1st 5 -10 minutes.  Wythall though soaked up anything thrown at them with ease, & then attacked furiously themselves.  The deadlock was broken on 12 minutes, when Ranjay Banton collected a fantastic cross threaded ball, controlled well, advanced 5 yards, then smashed his shot via the near post & then off the Lyne keeper in for 1-0.  2-0 came on 19 minutes, when more & more Wythall pressure was starting to tell.  Jack Jeys silky skills in the Lyne penalty area, right on the L/H goaline, saw his outfox the Lyne defender, see him bearing back towards goal, only for the Lyne defender to up-end Jeys for a clear cut penalty. Jeys stepped up & cooly converted to the keeper right, sending him the wrong way to double the lead.   Wythall went on to wrap up the 1st game with 4 more goals, for a fantastic start to the defence of the Shield.

2nd Match up - Lyne FC Under13s  vs Wythall Juniors U13s

Continuing on the winning streak, the under13s took the game to a 'guest' Lyne FC team,  in what was a superb game of football, Wythall came out 6-1 winners to make the 'catch up' task for Lyne Fc that very much harder with 3 games still left to play.

3rd Match up - Lyne FC Under10s  vs Wythall Juniors  U10s

Match report

After a fantastic camping weekend next to the river Thames, the
Birmingham Crew went over to Lyne FC for the annual Lyne FC vs
Wythall Juniors Challenge Shield.  Each age group played a game
each, & the club with the most wins, claims the shield.  Last year the
Wythall teams won all their games, & grabbed the 1st ever spoils.
This year their were 5 teams entered, & they all set about defending
the title.  After the Under15s & under13s both won their games, it was
the under10s up next.   The game started very much the same as the
previous year, with both teams going at it from the word go.  It was
Wythall though again, who capitalised when Callum Bridgewater
went hurtling down the R/H side & drilled his shot at the near post,
seeing it thunder past the Lyne keeper for 1-0.  2-0 came 5 minutes
later, when a near replica of the previous goal saw Bridgewater's
shot saved this time, only for George Sturdy to mop up at the back
post to double the lead.  On 17 mins, some good work from Jamie
Hasker then a surge from Joe Edrop, saw the ball enter the penatly
area, & Austin Walker-Mani took full advantage to drive his shot in
from 7 yards for 3-0.
HALF TIME: LYNE FC 0,  WYTHALL  3
The 2nd half saw Wythall continue to dominate the game, & push
further on for more goals.  Captain Charlie Donlan got in on the act
on 32 minutes, when Walker-Mani intercepted at the half way line,
poked the ball forward & Donlan took over.  Charging into the box,
he seemed to have gone too wide, but cut the ball from an acute
angle with his right foot across goal into the far R/H bottom corner
for a superb finish & 4-0.  Kyle Mullally then got in on the act, put
though by Donlan to calm himself, then guide the ball home easily for
5-0.  It was Donlan's turn again moments later, when he twisted &
turned on the edge of the Lyne area, to somehow find a way to goal
& score cooly across goal for 6-0.  The game was wrapped up on 55
minutes, when more interaction between Donlan & Mullally, then also
Bridgewater, saw Mullally receive the ball on the edge of the far R/H
Lyne Penalty area, he teased the Lyne defence, before hitting a
sublim left footed effort hard & low into the bottom R/H corner for
a brilliant end to a brilliant weekend!  Well done to EVERY player who
were ALL FANTASTIC today - especially the new boys/twins the Edrop
Brothers who surprised everyone, with their guts & determination to
help Wythall to a comprehensive victory!!  - Support was brilliant too!!

4th Match up - Lyne FC Under 9s  vs Wythall Juniors  U8s

Last year the under 8s ran out extremely comfortable winners, so it was decided this year that Wythall U8s 1st team would play the Under9s team instead.  Wythall displayed just why they are rated so highly in the Central Warwickshire Youth League, when each & every player produced mouth watering football at times, in a fantastic game of football.  This very talented team will go a long way in the future, under the guidance of Simon Wagstaff, who has turned these lads into unbelievable footballers.  They produced probably the match of the day, winning the game comfortably 8-0.

5th Match up - Lyne FC Under 8s  vs Wythall Juniors U8sA

This was the last game of the day for a new Wythall team just currently joinied the Wythall fold.  Not much was known about this new team representing Wythall, Managed by a former Wythall Manager of old Matt Stevens.    This game looked very even from the start, with Lyne desperately trying to chalk up a victory for the 1st time ever.  Lyne took the lead after 15 minutes to the thunderous cheer of Lyne parents & supporters, giving them a glimmer of hope of victory.  Wythall though reponded by equalising 3 minutes later to once again quiet down the Lyne parents!  It wasn't looking good for Lyne another 2 minutes later when Wythall stole in to take the lead 2-1.  Lyne again replied making the game 2-2, & installing some more confidence to get that elusive victory.  Wythall though broke their hearts again by taking the lead again to 3-2.  With 7 minutes left Lyne again troubled Wythall by levelling the game at 3-3 for what was to be a very tense last 5 minutes.  Both teams fought hard to snatch the victory, but in the end the 3-3 scoreline was a fair result with both teams  playing well, & either could have snatched the victory in the end.

FINAL SCORE - Lyne FC  1, WYTHALL JUNIORS 5

Wythall Juniors retained the Challenge Shield for the 2nd year running, & also undefeated.  A brilliant achievement by everybody involved, & we all look forward to the 3rd Annual installment of the Lyne FC vs Wythall Juniors Challenge Shield 2010 next year.

THANK YOU Lyne FC for your generous hosting of this tournament - you made everyone very welcome all day, & contributed to such a brilliant day for us all.  We look forward to seeing you all again next year, & also look forward to a long lasting friendship between both Clubs.
